In its address, the WHO noted that it took into account the words of the U.S. government that the organization "slandered, tarnished," and offended the United States.However, according to the WHO, "in fact, it is the opposite." The organization claims that it has always sought good-faith cooperation with the U.S. and all other member states, respecting their sovereignty.
Among the reasons cited for the U.S. leaving the WHO are the "mistakes of the organization" during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as "hindering timely and accurate sharing of important information." In response, the WHO stated that it acted promptly, sharing information with the global community and advising countries.
The World Health Organization also clarified that it recommended the use of masks, vaccines, and physical distancing, while not proposing mandatory measures, leaving decisions to sovereign governments.
Furthermore, the U.S. claimed that the WHO adhered to a politicized agenda, but in response, the WHO emphasized that as a specialized agency of the UN, consisting of 194 member states, it has always remained impartial and served the interests of all countries.
The WHO also expressed gratitude to the countries that continue to cooperate with it in seeking solutions to pressing health issues.
In conclusion, the WHO reminded that last year member states adopted a pandemic agreement, which will become an important instrument of international law for protection against future pandemics after its ratification.
