
In 2025, a total of 8,820 foreigners applied to Russia for protection. Citizens of Uzbekistan ranked fifth in the number of applications among foreign applicants, following citizens of Ukraine, Syria, Palestine, and Afghanistan. The top ten countries with the highest number of requests also included Germany, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Israel, and Armenia.
In comparison, in 2024, the number of asylum seekers was significantly lower — 6,879 people. The increase in applications in 2025 is associated with a change in the structure of flows: in the previous year, the majority of applicants were Ukrainians (over 3,700), while in the current period, there is an expansion of the geography of requests.
