
The incident occurred when deputies from the opposition Republican People's Party took to the podium in an attempt to stop the ceremony, leading to both verbal and physical confrontations with representatives of the ruling Justice and Development Party. As a result of the fight, one deputy was injured — he had a broken nose.
Despite the chaos, the oath-taking ceremony for the ministers was successfully completed, after which the parliamentary session was suspended.
Mustafa Ciftci, who previously served as the governor of Erzurum, was appointed as the Minister of Internal Affairs, while Akin Gurlak, a former prosecutor in Istanbul, became the Minister of Justice. The clashes occurred at the moment Gurlak was taking his oath.
It is worth noting that in March of last year, Gurlak issued an arrest warrant for Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, which sparked widespread protests across the country. Opposition deputies claimed that someone like Gurlak should not be involved in politics.
