On February 20, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced the blocking of a 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine from the European Union. This decision is linked to the suspension of oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline to Hungary. Szijjarto made this statement on the social network X, emphasizing that such actions are aimed at preventing "blackmail" from Kyiv.
According to the Hungarian minister, the halt in oil supplies was carried out "in coordination with Brussels and the Hungarian opposition," which, in his opinion, should create difficulties with fuel supplies and affect the political situation in the country ahead of the elections scheduled for April 12.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban also confirmed that Hungary will continue to block financial assistance to Ukraine. "As long as Ukraine closes the Druzhba pipeline, Hungary will not approve the military loan of 90 billion euros. We cannot be blackmailed!" he noted in his post on Facebook.
