UN Secretary-General called the strikes on Iran and Tehran's retaliatory attacks a threat to international peace

Guterres emphasized the importance of preventing further escalation of the conflict and called for returning the region "from the brink of disaster." He noted that the military actions occurred against the backdrop of diplomatic negotiations between the USA and Iran, which were mediated by Oman.

The opinions of the Security Council members turned out to be divided. Russia characterized the strikes as "a new unprovoked act of aggression" against a sovereign state, calling it "a betrayal of diplomacy."

China, for its part, condemned these actions, labeling them as "unabashed," expressed condolences for the loss of civilian lives, and called for respect for Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Iran regarded the incident as a war crime and a crime against humanity, accusing the USA and Israel of deliberate strikes on residential areas of major cities.

For its part, the USA stated that their actions were aimed at destroying Iran's ballistic potential and preventing the development of nuclear weapons.

Israel characterized its actions as necessary, a response to an "existential threat" posed by Iran, which they believe has ignored international law.

The United Kingdom, which is chairing the Council this month, called for a swift resolution of the situation and reported the involvement of British forces in "coordinated regional defensive operations."

France demanded that Iran fulfill its international obligations, pointing to the reduction of Tehran's cooperation with the IAEA.
