Khark, as reported by Reuters and Axios, accounts for 80-90% of Iran's oil exports, making it a critically important asset for Iran's energy infrastructure. Before the recent escalation of the conflict, over 2 million barrels of oil were exported daily through this hub, while at the beginning of 2026, this figure was around 1.7 million barrels.
Earlier, The Telegraph reported that control over the island of Khark would provide Washington with an important tool for pressure on Tehran without the need to deploy troops on Iranian territory. However, Reuters emphasizes that, at this time, the strikes are aimed exclusively at military targets, not at capturing the island itself.
