In an interview provided to the UN News Service, Moratinos emphasized that the situation with Islamophobia has been worsening for the third consecutive year, despite efforts being made at the international level. "We are witnessing a significant increase in aggression, attacks, and human rights violations against Muslims. This requires active action from all states," he noted.

Moratinos highlighted education and intercultural dialogue as important directions in the fight against Islamophobia. He stressed that there is still a serious misunderstanding of Islam in Western society. "Many people have no idea what Islam is. They have not read the Quran and form their views based on distorted interpretations and out-of-context quotes. We need to invest in education at all levels: in schools, in the media, and in society as a whole," he added.

In his opinion, such ignorance creates ideal conditions for manipulation. Educational programs should focus on the historical context, theological foundations, and cultural diversity of the Islamic world.

This year, the UN plans to present the first global plan to combat Islamophobia. Moratinos reported that the document will include an analysis of the historical causes of Islamophobia, recommendations for legislative measures, and the establishment of a monitoring system.

In conclusion of his interview, Moratinos noted that humanity must learn to coexist in peace.
