A year ago, Argentina notified UN Secretary-General António Guterres of its intention to withdraw from the WHO. This move was announced by President Javier Milei, who expressed disagreement with the organization's policies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Argentina's Foreign Minister Pablo Kirno confirmed the country's exit from the WHO on Tuesday, March 17, emphasizing that Argentina will continue to support international cooperation in health through bilateral agreements and regional platforms, while protecting its sovereignty and right to make decisions in the field of health.

The United States became the first country to leave the World Health Organization, doing so at the end of January 2021 under President Donald Trump. He accused the WHO of corruption, inefficiency, and succumbing to political pressure from China and other countries.

As a result of the decisions made by Argentina and the United States, the WHO is forced to reduce its staff. It is expected that by the end of 2023, 25% of the organization's personnel will be laid off.
