Mongolia appointed its third prime minister in less than 12 months

He stood up and answered questions from members of parliament.
"On Monday, the Mongolian parliament elected a new prime minister, making him the third in less than a year. This decision comes amid ongoing political crises and internal conflicts within the ruling Mongolian People's Party (MPP)," reports MiddleAsianNews.

Uchral Nyam-Osor, 39, was elected with the support of 82.2% of parliamentary votes. His predecessor resigned just nine months after taking office.

Nyam-Osor's appointment came shortly after his resignation from the position of speaker of parliament, which he held for only four months. The opposition actively protested against his candidacy.

In recent weeks, members of the Democratic Party of Mongolia (DPM) boycotted parliamentary sessions, demanding Nyam-Osor's resignation and arguing that the leader of the ruling party should not hold the position of head of the legislative body simultaneously.

Previously, Uchral held key positions, including Minister of Digital Development and Communications, as well as head of the Cabinet Secretariat.

Since 2025, he has also served as Minister of Economy and Development. Educated in both the UK and Russia, he is known as a technocrat.

Speaking before parliament, Nyam-Osor assured his commitment to economic growth amid rising global oil prices and expressed readiness to cooperate with Russia to ensure stable fuel supplies.

He presented a series of reforms aimed at reducing bureaucracy, improving the economy, reforming the legal system, combating corruption, and developing environmentally friendly technologies.

"We will eliminate artificial barriers such as bureaucracy and excessive regulation," he emphasized.

Nyam-Osor also noted that Mongolians have always succeeded when they acted as a united team and called on all deputies, regardless of their party affiliation, to unite to address pressing issues related to global political instability, rising prices, and the crisis in the transportation sector.
