According to MiddleAsianNews, Zandanshatar Gombojav, who holds the position of Prime Minister of Mongolia, has resigned during a closed meeting of the ruling council of the Mongolian People's Party (MPP). This was reported by the party's Secretary General Sodbaatar Yangug.
“At today’s MPP meeting, we discussed the difficult socio-economic situation in the country, which was provoked by global events, as well as issues regarding the suspension of parliament's work. As a result, Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav decided to resign,” said Sodbaatar.
The meeting took place after the opposition Democratic Party (DP) faction in parliament refused to participate in sessions starting March 19, while Uchral Nyam-Osor remains the speaker. The opposition claims that, as the head of the ruling party, he should lead the executive, not the legislative branch.
“The party council approved Zandanshatar Gombojav's resignation from the position of Prime Minister. Further steps will be discussed in accordance with the law, and the decision will be sent for consideration to parliamentary committees and the plenary session of the Great State Khural,” added Sodbaatar.

The plenary session of the spring session of the Great State Khural, which took place on March 27, 2026, began at 20:28 with the participation of 54.8% of members and discussed Zandanshatar Gombojav's request for voluntary resignation.
The majority of the Permanent Committee members supported the Prime Minister's request and agreed to relieve him of his duties. It was also decided that Zandanshatar would remain acting Prime Minister until a new head of the Mongolian government is appointed.
The Chairman of the Permanent Committee on State Construction, Sandag-Ochir Tsend, presented opinions and conclusions on the matter under discussion. In his report, he noted that Zandanshatar pointed out the lack of time to address political problems caused by the global economic crisis, the shortage of petroleum products, and rising prices.

Zandanshatar noted that his decision to exit the current situation is based on his understanding of duty to the country and the people.
“Dear young people! To overcome the artificially created political crisis, I am stepping down as Prime Minister of Mongolia, starting with myself. You are the future of our country,” Zandanshatar addressed the youth.
Zandanshatar Gombojav, appointed on June 13, 2025, as the 34th Prime Minister of Mongolia, studied economics and finance at the Irkutsk Institute of National Economy from 1987 to 1992. Before starting his political career, he worked in several banks in Mongolia and was first elected to parliament in 2004.
From 2009 to 2012, he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, and from 2020 to 2024, he headed the Great State Khural. Although he was a candidate from the MPP in the parliamentary elections in June 2024, he lost in his district and later headed the presidential administration.
