On the night of April 1, the Sergievskoye Reservoir, located in northern Kazakhstan, overflowed, as reported by "Petropavlovsk.news". Over the course of a day, the water level in the reservoir increased by 13 centimeters, leading to an overflow over the top of the dam, as there are no sluices, and it operates as a self-draining structure.
Currently, preparations for a possible flood are actively underway in the northern part of the country: the level of the Ishim River's tributaries is rapidly rising, and an increase in the river level itself is also observed in the area of Sergievka (+29 cm). According to forecasts from Kazhydromet, the highest flood levels are expected during the second to third decades of April.
According to "Vlast.kz", the akim of the North Kazakhstan region, Gauyez Nurmukhambetov, stated that all important protective structures, including facilities in the Kyzylzhar district, the bypass canal in the village of Zarechny, and the hydro junction in Petropavlovsk, are under control. He also instructed to organize a flood response headquarters in the village of Pribrezhnoe, which is in the risk zone.
It should be noted that two years ago, in the spring of 2024, Kazakhstan faced one of the most serious floods in the last eighty years. As a result of the flooding, several regions were submerged, and tens of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes. The recovery of the destroyed farms took a significant amount of time, and the damage from the flood was estimated in the hundreds of billions of tenge.
