This new species has been scientifically named Megachile Lucifer. Scientists stumbled upon "Lucifer" while studying rare flowers that grow in the Goldfields region, located 470 kilometers east of Perth.
Interestingly, only the females of this bee species have horns, which they use for protection against predators, as well as for collecting pollen, nectar, and materials for building nests, such as resin.
Dr. Keith Prendergast, the head of the research team, explains that at the moment of discovering the new species, she was watching the series "Lucifer" on Netflix.
According to Dr. Prendergast, this event marks the first addition to the genus of bees in the last 20 years.
