‘Reporters Without Borders’: 67 journalists killed worldwide in a year

The most dangerous places for journalists have been identified

In 2025, the murder of 67 journalists was recorded worldwide, according to information from the organization "Reporters Without Borders" (RSF).

Among the countries posing the greatest threat to media representatives are the Gaza Strip, Mexico, Ukraine, Sudan, and Syria. At the same time, Russia ranks first in the number of imprisoned foreign journalists, as reported in DW's reports.

All the murdered journalists were performing their official duties. Most of them died as a result of conflicts or actions by criminal groups, which the human rights organization emphasizes in its annual report on press freedom published on December 9.

Currently, there are 503 journalists imprisoned worldwide, distributed across 62 countries. China leads in the number of imprisoned journalists (121), followed by Russia (48), Myanmar (47), Belarus (33), Vietnam (28), and Azerbaijan (25).

Additionally, 135 media workers worldwide are listed as missing, some of whom have been absent for more than 30 years. These cases have been recorded in over 100 countries, but most of them occur in regions of the Middle East and Latin America.
