SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, has decided to disable more than 2,500 Starlink terminals that were being used near fraudulent call centers in Myanmar, according to NBC News.
These measures were taken in response to statements from activists pointing out that Chinese syndicates are using Musk's satellite internet for fraudulent schemes.
Lauren Dreyer, SpaceX's Vice President of Business Development, announced on social media platform X that the company "actively identified and disabled more than 2,500 Starlink terminals located near suspicious 'fraud centers'." She emphasized that SpaceX aims to use its services for the benefit of society, maintaining trust on a global level, both by connecting the underprivileged and by preventing the misuse of services by malicious actors.
