Starting from January 1, 2026, all immigrants in the Russian Federation will undergo testing in the Russian language using computers and distance technologies. This information was presented by the Ministry of Education and Science.

“State institutions will be required to conduct the exam in Russian as a foreign language, as well as on the history of Russia and the basics of legislation, solely using computer technologies and a remote format,” the agency reported.

Currently, work is underway to prepare for the implementation of this initiative, which aims to increase the transparency of the examination process and reduce the influence of the human factor in assessing knowledge.

It is also planned to update examination tasks monthly and to discontinue the practice of making answers publicly available.

At present, the exam can be taken at 203 locations, both within Russia and abroad.

Oversight of the exam for foreign citizens will be conducted by Rosobrnadzor.
