The scandal surrounding the construction of the residential complex 'Altai' in Bishkek – comment from the Ministry of Construction

“Separate approval of the project with the Institute of Seismology is not required”

Before the start of construction of the residential complex “Altai” in the vicinity of Bishkek, engineering and geological surveys were conducted in accordance with current legislation. This statement was made by the Ministry of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services, commenting on a video that appeared online showing flooded excavation sites.
The ministry clarified that as a result of the surveys, the groundwater level was established, and the project documentation includes necessary engineering solutions, such as the installation of a drainage system and limiting the height of residential buildings to five stories.
“The 'Altai' complex is classified as low-rise construction, and all issues related to seismic safety have been thoroughly reviewed by the relevant state institutions. Therefore, additional approval of the project with the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan is not required,” the Ministry added, urging citizens to rely on official sources of information.
Earlier, on social media, the president of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Seismology of Kyrgyzstan, Kanat Abdrakhmatov, criticized the choice of location for the residential complex, warning about the risks associated with groundwater.
