The head of the Ministry of Construction shared his opinion on the dense construction of high-rise buildings in the capital
In Bishkek, there is a possibility to construct 40-story residential buildings, stated Nurdana Oruntaev, the Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services, in an interview with KNA "Kabar".
“In our country, it is permitted to build buildings up to 22 stories high without additional technical conditions. If the height exceeds 22 stories, a special conclusion from the Institute of Seismic Construction and Engineering Design is required. Currently, there are relevant documents for buildings up to 35 stories, and for high-rise buildings from 35 to 40 stories, the conclusion will be provided in the near future,” the minister explained.
He noted that neighboring countries have already successfully implemented high-rise projects.
“In Tashkent, Almaty, Dushanbe, and Urumqi, even taller buildings have been constructed. For example, a 55-story building was erected in Tashkent, and in Urumqi, there is a building with 80 stories. We have similar conditions regarding soil and seismicity, so we should pay attention to their experience, study the engineering aspects, and confidently implement such projects. In Kyrgyzstan, such buildings can function normally. For instance, the heating plant pipes built during the Soviet era have been serving for many years and have not let us down,” Oruntaev added.
The minister also commented on the problem of dense construction in the capital, where high-rise buildings are being constructed without sufficient street widths and access roads.
“Unfortunately, we do not have the opportunity to build on large areas due to a lack of land, while the population is growing, which increases the demand for housing. Everyone strives to obtain their own housing. Additionally, 90% of the country's territory is occupied by mountainous areas, making construction near the mountains complex and costly. Therefore, construction is carried out on flat areas where land is expensive, which indicates economic growth and the attraction of investors,” the minister concluded.
