Visitors to cafes and restaurants in Kyrgyzstan have encountered an unexpected price increase
Since the beginning of 2026, a new government decree has come into effect in Kyrgyzstan, prohibiting catering establishments from charging service fees to customers. This innovation has caused dissatisfaction among visitors, as the usual 10-15% for service is now included in the final price of the dishes.
As a result, social media users have noted a significant increase in prices for their favorite dishes. For example, the cost of a portion of manti in some establishments has risen to 400 soms, whereas it previously ranged between 200 and 250 soms. Layered samsas now cost 100 soms instead of the previous 75-85, and a teapot of tea ranges from 150 to 400 soms, whereas it used to cost 100-250 soms.
