Azamat Kerimbek uulu, the director of the "Legprom" association, proposed the creation of a separate division within the Ministry of Economy and Commerce that would focus on issues related to the sewing industry.

At a meeting of the "Ala-Too" parliamentary group dedicated to discussing the current problems faced by garment workers, he voiced a number of difficulties encountered by representatives of this sector.

According to him, a significant portion of sales is currently conducted through marketplaces.

“Since 2003, a patent system for garment workers has been in place in Kyrgyzstan, but it was abolished in 2023. Over two decades, 9,800 sewing workshops have been opened in the country. In 2023, the Wildberries marketplace began accepting Kyrgyz garment workers, and over two years, 23,000 individual entrepreneurs registered there, while 7,000 registered on Ozon. That same year, Akylbek Japarov met with the owner of Wildberries to discuss the possibility of allocating a site for a logistics center. After that, she went to Tashkent, where a distribution center of 100,000 square meters is planned to open by 2026. While we were discussing our problems, the Uzbeks had already built theirs,” he noted.

Furthermore, Kerimbek uulu pointed out that neither garment workers nor the government of Kyrgyzstan were prepared for the changes that occurred in Russia in the fall of last year. He expressed the need for closer cooperation between entrepreneurs and government structures to jointly address the emerging issues.

“The textile industry ranks third in exports after Kumtor and agriculture. Uzbekistan has a separate Ministry of Light and Textile Industry. We also need a specialized department in the Ministry of Economy that will address issues related to the sewing industry and accumulate necessary information,” emphasized the association's director.

In the fall of 2025, it became known about the difficulties faced by representatives of Kyrgyzstan's sewing industry due to changes in Russian requirements. These issues regarding the passage of products across the border were also discussed in the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.
