At a meeting dedicated to discussing the new general plan for Bishkek, one local resident proposed the idea of building a metro that would run through the "Ala-Archa" and "Alamedin" rivers.

However, one of the specialists from the St. Petersburg Research Institute, involved in the development of the general plan, noted that it would not be possible to achieve the necessary passenger flow in Bishkek for a metro system to operate successfully.

Moreover, he emphasized that creating a metro is economically unfeasible.

“It would be much more profitable to develop tram networks. They will connect all the subcenters of the districts and will be in demand. The metro, on the other hand, is a long-term and complex project,” he added.

In response to a question about relocating the railway from the city center, the expert noted that this is not a transit project. “There are 120 enterprises associated with the railway, which play a key role in the economy. Relocating it would require moving all these industrial facilities,” explained the representative of the Research Institute.

He also pointed out that the railway could be used for passenger transportation.
