At a press conference dedicated to discussing the General Plan for the capital, Irina Grishechkina, Deputy Director of the Research Institute for Prospective Urban Development of Russia, reported that in Bishkek, there are 300 cars per 1,000 residents, which is quite a high figure.

Irina noted that examples from the practices of other major cities around the world were taken into account when developing the General Plan.

“Many of these cities are now facing problems related to excessive motorization. For example, in some places, it is difficult to purchase a car. We recommend actively developing public transport and making it convenient for residents,” Grishechkina emphasized.

The specialist added that the General Plan-2050 includes a number of measures to improve mobility within the city. One such measure is the creation of connections between major highways and streets. This will help eliminate transit traffic from the city. There are also plans for the construction of a main transport route where speeds can reach 110 kilometers per hour, providing convenient access to various areas of the capital.

“The reconstruction of main streets can continue indefinitely, but this does not solve the problem of traffic jams. Therefore, it is necessary to develop public transport and make its routes more convenient — this has already been recognized in many countries,” the expert added.

According to her, the main flow of traffic is currently concentrated in the city center, where many jobs are located. A multifunctional cluster will be developed in each of the four major districts of the capital, as well as specialized zones, such as medical and entertainment areas. In the southern part of the city, a new cluster with convenient transport links is planned to be created.
