At the expert discussion of the Bishkek general plan, activist Rasul Kalmurzaev proposed an interesting solution for the capital — the construction of an elevated metro.

In his opinion, such a project could significantly help in the fight against traffic jams. He pointed out the possibility of placing the line over the Aalamidin and Ala-Archa rivers.

A representative of the general plan development team, an employee of the urban planning research institute in St. Petersburg, commented on the proposal, noting that various options for transportation infrastructure had already been considered. However, it was decided to abandon the idea of building a metro for two main reasons: economic impracticality and the specifics of traffic flow.

“In Bishkek, the passenger flow is such that building a metro would be economically unfeasible. The timeline for project implementation is also important. For example, in the time required to construct three or four metro stations, a full-fledged tram line could be built,” the developer added.
