In the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, discussions are taking place today regarding the General Plan for the Development of Bishkek until 2050. The city administration organized this event to engage both professionals and ordinary citizens to discuss the future of the city.

During the discussions, one participant proposed the idea of building a metro, suggesting to start the project along the Ala-Archa and Alamedin rivers.

However, the developers of the general plan from the Research Institute of Prospective Urban Development in St. Petersburg noted that the current passenger flow in Bishkek is insufficient for the implementation of a metro system. They also emphasized the economic impracticality of such a project.

Instead, the city administration is considering the possibility of launching tram services. "Creating a tram network would be a more advantageous solution. It will connect all the subcenters of the districts, and the tram will be in demand," the specialists stated at the hearings.

Furthermore, the city authorities have abandoned the idea of relocating the railway tracks outside the capital, as they serve 120 economically significant enterprises. Removing the railway from the city would require relocating these companies, which is an impractical solution.

The authors of the general plan intend to use the existing railway infrastructure to improve transportation accessibility for the residents of the capital.

The General Plan for the Development of the City is a strategic document aimed at the long-term development and strengthening of Bishkek's position as a financial and logistics center in Central Asia. It also includes the diversification of the economy and the creation of a comfortable urban environment.

In developing the general plan until 2050, a model of sustainable urban development was used, which is based on the integrated design of urban planning documents such as territorial planning, urban zoning, and detailed plans. The developers believe that this approach ensures the greatest efficiency and sustainable development of the area.
