His professional record is 24 wins, including 12 by knockout
Dmitry Bivol, a boxer from Kyrgyzstan, has become one of the contenders for the title of Fighter of the Year according to The Ring magazine.
He is currently 35 years old and holds titles from the International Boxing Federation (IBF), the World Boxing Organization (WBO), and the World Boxing Association (WBA). His professional boxing record includes 24 wins, of which 12 were by knockout, and one loss. In 2022, he already received the title of "Fighter of the Year" from The Ring. In his amateur career, Bivol achieved significant success, including winning the championship at the World Martial Arts Games and a silver medal at the Universiade in 2013.
He lost his last title in the spring of last year when the World Boxing Council (WBC) stripped him of the belt for refusing to defend it against David Benavidez, who became the new champion. However, the WBO, WBA, and IBF federations confirmed that they do not intend to strip Bivol of his titles, noting that defending the championship belt is of great importance.
In February 2025, Bivol returned to the ring, defeating Beterbiev in a match held in Riyadh at the Kingdom Arena. The fight ended in a majority decision with scores of 114-114, 116-112, 115-113, allowing Bivol to regain the WBA belt and earn the IBF and WBO titles.
This rematch against Beterbiev is also nominated for "Fight of the Year" by The Ring. The magazine's website features a list of other nominations, such as "Best Female Fighter," "Knockout of the Year," "Round of the Year," "Upset of the Year," "Trainer of the Year," and "Prospect of the Year." The awards ceremony will take place on January 30 in New York, prior to The Ring 6 boxing evening, which will be held on January 31 at the famous Madison Square Garden.
