According to information from obstetrician-gynecologist Zhanailai Amiraeva, head of the maternity department at the perinatal center of the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, 70% of cases of maternal mortality are related to women not seeking medical help in time and not registering for care. She shared this information during a broadcast on "Birinchi Radio."

Zhanailai Amiraeva noted that behind the statistical data lie tragic stories, many of which could have been prevented.

“The onset of problems is often related to the prenatal period. Unfortunately, many future mothers do not register on time and seek help in critical condition. This is due to a lack of information. Making the decision to register by 12 weeks of pregnancy is 80% of the success in preventing maternal mortality,” she emphasized.

Among the alarming symptoms that need attention, the doctor highlighted: severe headaches, swelling, absence of urination, vomiting, and the appearance of "flies" before the eyes.

Zhanailai Amiraeva also pointed out that women with chronic diseases, including cardiovascular, kidney, and endocrine disorders, represent a separate risk group. Many of them, despite medical contraindications, continue to become pregnant and do not seek specialists.

“Every woman dreams of becoming a mother. However, safe motherhood begins with proper pregnancy planning. Both partners should undergo examinations. It is important to adhere to the schedule of preventive check-ups, prenatal screenings, and not to miss mandatory visits during pregnancy. It is also necessary to improve the quality of medical care by engaging obstetricians-gynecologists in continuous education and professional development,” she added.

In 2025, Kyrgyzstan recorded an increase in maternal mortality: 48 cases (34.8 per 100,000 live births), which is 35.4% more than in 2024 (25.7, or 36 cases).

According to the Ministry of Health, the main causes of maternal mortality are extragenital diseases, bleeding, sepsis, and hypertensive disorders.
