According to her, behind the statistical data lie tragedies that, in some cases, can be prevented. "Maternal mortality is not just a consequence of childbirth. It is the result of a whole range of factors, starting from the prenatal period. Unfortunately, many women do not seek medical help in time and come to doctors in serious condition," Amiraeva noted.
She also pointed out that many women do not undergo necessary prenatal examinations and visit doctors when it is already difficult to provide assistance.
"Timely registration of pregnancy before 12 weeks allows for the prevention of 80% of cases of maternal mortality," said the specialist, emphasizing the importance of pregnancy planning.
Among the factors contributing to late visits, the obstetrician mentioned low levels of awareness, social vulnerability, migration processes, and lack of support from relatives.
Additionally, many women ignore alarming symptoms such as severe headaches, swelling, lack of urination, vomiting, and "floaters" in front of their eyes. "If vomiting occurs more than ten times a day, it is a sign of severe degree, and this is not normal. It can lead to serious consequences. This year, there have been cases where women died due to severe vomiting because they did not seek medical help," emphasized Amiraeva.
She also noted that women with chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular or endocrine pathologies, are at risk. Some of them, despite medical contraindications, become pregnant and do not consult specialists.
"They come for consultation already in a state of decompensation, when our ability to provide assistance is limited," the specialist noted. One of the main causes of maternal mortality remains severe preeclampsia, associated with high blood pressure, which can lead to massive postpartum hemorrhage—the most common complication of childbirth.
The doctor noted that early diagnosis of risks allows for monitoring the condition through constant observation and medication therapy while adhering to all specialists' recommendations.
"Safe motherhood begins with proper pregnancy planning. Both spouses should undergo examinations. This is the foundation for health," emphasized the obstetrician-gynecologist.She urged women not to neglect preventive examinations, prenatal screenings, and regular visits to the doctor.
