The recent meeting of the Rospotrebnadzor board was dedicated to issues of improving epidemiological control over parasitic diseases, as reported on the official website of the agency.

Participants in the meeting emphasized that parasitic diseases, having significant socio-economic impacts and widespread distribution, remain one of the main threats to public health on a global scale.

The agency drew attention to the increasing risks associated with foreign citizens arriving in Russia for work purposes.
Russia employs a comprehensive approach to combating parasitic infections. Research organizations under Rospotrebnadzor have established reference centers specializing in the study of parasitic diseases. These centers conduct ongoing monitoring and analysis of the epidemiological situation both within the country and beyond its borders.

Based on the collected information, scientifically grounded forecasts and effective preventive measures are being developed.

“The reference centers are engaged in the identification of parasites, with research materials coming from various regions of Russia. In-depth studies are conducted, and the results, including genomic sequences, are entered into the national database VGARus, which helps create a unified information platform and expands opportunities for scientific research,” the message notes.

According to information from Rospotrebnadzor, 10 innovative test systems for detecting various pathogens, such as malaria, schistosomiasis, ascariasis, leishmaniasis, trichocephalosis, and toxoplasmosis, have already been developed and implemented. Active work is underway to create new test systems for PCR diagnostics of diseases such as diphyllobothriasis, dirofilariasis, and echinococcosis.
