The number of snow leopards in Kyrgyzstan has exceeded 550 individuals

The snow leopard has become the official symbol of Kyrgyzstan

At a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on agrarian policy, ecology, and environmental protection, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision Asel Raimkulova reported that there are over 550 snow leopards in Kyrgyzstan. This species has been recognized as the national symbol of the Kyrgyz Republic, for which a logo and usage rules have also been developed.

According to Raimkulova's statement, the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Conservation of the Snow Leopard has started in the country, which will be in effect until 2030. The program includes numerous activities aimed at protecting this rare animal and preserving its natural habitat.

Efforts are also underway to expand and develop specially protected natural areas covering about 792 thousand hectares, which will improve the condition of these ecosystems.

A key event has been the creation of an ecological corridor that connects the Khan-Tengri, Sary-Chelek-Ertash regions, and the Naryn region. This will allow snow leopards to migrate safely and ensure the sustainability of their population in Kyrgyzstan.
