In the Kümüştak area of the Bakai-Ata district in the Talas region, near the Boztum-Bulak stream, specialists conducted a population count of mountain goats. This was reported by ecologists who are monitoring wildlife in the region.

According to their data, during the monitoring, a gathering of 17 mountain goats was recorded in one location. Ecologists note that such observations allow for tracking the dynamics of the population and the state of natural ecosystems.

Currently, preparations are underway for the winter period. To support the animals, staff are harvesting feed and delivering it to areas where mountain goats are most frequently encountered. This helps wild ungulates survive the winter cold more easily and maintain a stable population.

According to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, there has been a noticeable decline in the population of key species of wild ungulates in Kyrgyzstan over the past five years. If in 2023 the total population was 69,151 individuals, in 2024 the figure dropped to 51,288 — a decrease of more than 17,000 individuals.

The most numerous species is the Siberian ibex (capra ibex). Its population gradually increased from 36,894 to 42,892 individuals from 2020 to 2023, but in 2024 it sharply decreased to 30,654. This decline may be related to natural factors, poaching, or a reduction in the food base.

The population of argali also shows a decline: from 18,558 individuals in 2023 to 15,960 in 2024. This is the lowest figure in the last five years.

The populations of wild boar and roe deer have also decreased. The wild boar population has nearly halved: from 3,089 in 2023 to 1,527 in 2024. A similar trend is observed in roe deer — from 4,551 to 3,100 individuals.

The lowest population is traditionally shown by the maral. If in 2020-2021 the numbers exceeded 100 individuals, in 2024 only 47 marals were recorded.

Experts note that such trends require intensified monitoring, habitat protection efforts, and measures to prevent poaching. Sharp population declines may indicate both anthropogenic factors and climate changes affecting the availability of natural resources.
