Nearly 250 tablets provided by UNICEF to the healthcare system of Kyrgyzstan

Recently, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Health between Minister Damir Osmonov and the UNICEF representative in Kyrgyzstan, Samman Jung Tapa.

According to the press center of the ministry, important aspects of cooperation were raised during the discussions, concerning maternal and child health protection, improvement of primary healthcare, immunization, as well as the implementation of digital technologies in the healthcare system.

“Thanks to our joint efforts, significant successes have been achieved. Over the past decades, child mortality in Kyrgyzstan has decreased by 73 percent. According to a comprehensive study conducted in 2023 with the support of UNICEF, the mortality rate among children under five has decreased from 20 to 16.5 per thousand live births,” noted Damir Osmonov.

The minister also emphasized the importance of UNICEF's contribution to the development of primary healthcare, support for services for pregnant women, newborns, children, and adolescents, as well as the standardization of medical services.

Osmonov specifically highlighted UNICEF's assistance in ensuring the availability of medicines. He reported that the Ministry has already begun purchasing medications through UNICEF and plans to expand this area in the future.

During the meeting, issues related to strengthening the immunization system were also discussed, particularly joint efforts to increase vaccination coverage and develop vaccine management at the national level.

In addition, the parties emphasized the development of telemedicine using the Telemed.kg platform, which will improve access to medical consultations, especially for residents of remote regions.

As part of supporting the digitalization of primary healthcare, UNICEF has provided 247 tablets that medical workers will use for remote consultations and to improve the accessibility of medical services.

Damir Osmonov added that further cooperation with UNICEF will contribute to strengthening the healthcare system and improving the health of children and families in Kyrgyzstan.
