On March 21, a ceremonial event was held in the city of Osh in honor of the Nowruz holiday, attended by the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Marlen Mamataliyev. This was reported by the press service of the parliament.
First, the speaker participated in the ritual of tasting sümlök, a traditional dish symbolizing the beginning of the holiday. He then visited the central square where the main event was taking place.
Speaking to those gathered, Marlen Mamataliyev emphasized that the ancestors of the Kyrgyz have celebrated the spring equinox as the beginning of the new year since ancient times. "This holiday, filled with symbolic rituals, embodies the power of nature and the eternity of life," he noted.
The speaker also pointed out the historical significance of Osh as one of the oldest cities in Kyrgyzstan, with an age exceeding three thousand years.
Speaking about the support provided to the city by President Sadyr Japarov, Mamataliyev noted that active work is being carried out to improve infrastructure, including the modernization of roads and the construction of social facilities. "Osh, known as the cultural capital of the Turkic world and the center of the Great Silk Road, will continue to strengthen its status and become an important cultural center not only for Central Asia but for the entire world," he added.
The speaker also highlighted the importance of the coincidence of the celebrations of Nowruz and Orozo Ait, seeing this as a good sign. "Nowruz is a holiday of renewal, while Orozo is a sacred duty. May our good intentions be accepted," he said.
Marlen Mamataliyev also mentioned the reforms being carried out in the country: "We pay special attention to the development of regions and addressing current issues. New social facilities are being built, salaries and pensions are being increased, and jobs are being created. By continuing to move forward in unity, we can make Kyrgyzstan prosperous," he concluded.
The festive events included various cultural programs reflecting spiritual values, and the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, including the speaker, observed national games and other activities.
