The screenplay, titled 'The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past', is being developed with the involvement of comedian Stephen Colbert, who became known for his work on CBS's The Late Show.
The plot of the new film unfolds 14 years after Frodo's demise. During this time, Sam, Merry, and Pippin decide to retrace the path of their first adventures. At the same time, Sam's daughter, Eleanor, encounters a long-hidden secret and seeks to uncover the reasons why the War of the Ring nearly ended in defeat even before it began.
The premiere of 'Shadow of the Past' will take place after the release of the film 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum', which is scheduled for release in December 2027.
