The city authorities have their own opinion on the provision of utility services, while residents assume that they do not want to face difficulties before the holidays.
From April 1 to May 10, hot water will be turned off in Bishkek. This became known after a working meeting held at the city hall.
In the past three years, the city authorities have started turning off hot water earlier and for a longer duration than in previous decades, including the Soviet period. The city hall explained the reasons for this decision.
According to information from the Municipal Enterprise "Bishkekteploset," about 68.6% of the thermal infrastructure has already reached the maximum age of operation and needs replacement. As a result, significant volumes of repair and restoration work are required, and the duration of hydraulic tests has also increased.
The city authorities also noted that the hot water shutdown in May and June coincides with an increase in drinking water consumption by the population, which creates additional pressure on the cold water supply system. This may lead to a decrease in pressure in the water supply networks and interruptions in water supply. Moreover, during this time, residents begin to actively use air conditioners and water heaters, which further burdens the energy system.
“We ask for understanding regarding the temporary inconveniences associated with the hot water shutdown. These measures are aimed at ensuring the reliability of the system and comfortable conditions for the city's residents,” the city hall emphasized.
However, alternative opinions about the reasons for the change in the shutdown dates have appeared on social media. Some residents express suspicions that the city authorities and "Bishkekteploset" do not want to create additional difficulties before the long May holidays.
It should be noted that the standard period for shutting off hot water for many years has been in May-June, after the May holidays.
