Danilo Yavgusishin, who became the first Ukrainian sumo champion in Japan, achieved this significant victory at the Kyushu tournament. As reported by The Guardian, he won the decisive match against the Mongolian champion Hoshoryu.

The young athlete, who moved to Japan three years ago, competes under the name Aonishiki Arata. He expressed his joy at achieving one of his goals, noting that he has even more ambitious plans. "I want to work on myself and reach new heights," Danilo said.

21-year-old Yavgusishin, who hails from Vinnytsia, began practicing sumo at the age of seven and became the champion of Ukraine at 17. After the war began, he first moved to Germany and then to Japan, where his parents remained in Germany. In Japan, he trained under the guidance of sumo wrestler Arata Yamanaka, whom he met at the junior world championship. His physical stats are approximately 183 centimeters in height and 140 kilograms in weight.

According to information from The Guardian, the Japan Sumo Association will soon hold a special meeting to consider promoting Danilo to the rank of ozeki, which is the second highest in the sumo hierarchy.
