Malik Shavaev, the current champion of Kyrgyzstan in freestyle wrestling, spoke about his connections to this country.

The 29-year-old athlete from Russia won a gold medal in the 89 kg weight category on December 24, becoming the champion of the country while representing the city of Talas.

“My sports journey began in a Russian wrestling school. Important changes are coming in my career soon: I will represent Kyrgyzstan — a country with which I have family roots, as my father was born here. I want to express my gratitude to all of Kyrgyzstan, the Wrestling Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the team for the warm welcome and trust. I promise to make every effort to justify this trust,” the athlete shared on his social media page.
