Mikhail Mamiashvili, president of the Russian Wrestling Federation, shared his opinion about Malik Shavaev, who will now represent Kyrgyzstan in international competitions.

Shavaev, a product of the Kabardino-Balkar school, recently became the champion of Kyrgyzstan in the 89 kg weight category and received the opportunity to compete at the Asian Championship.

“Malik has changed his sports citizenship and will now compete for Kyrgyzstan. This is quite a normal practice, although he is not the leader of the team,” noted Mamiashvili.

At 29 years old, Shavaev has twice become the champion of Russia and has reached the finals of the national championship once.

His last competition for the Russian team took place at the BRICS Games last year, where he won a gold medal.

Earlier, another two-time champion of Russia, Shamil Mamedov (up to 65 kg), also transferred to the Bulgarian team.
