Ikhtiyar Nishonov — the second Kyrgyzstani in history to win a medal at the World Championship

Kyrgyz boxer Ikhtiyar Nishonov won a bronze medal at the 2025 World Championship, which is taking place in the United Arab Emirates.

The IBA-sanctioned competition is being held in Dubai.

Nishonov competed in the under 71 kg category and managed to reach the semifinals, achieving victories over opponents from Australia, Thailand, and Moldova. In the fight for the final, he lost to a boxer from Kazakhstan, resulting in a third place finish and a bronze medal.

This award is only the second for Kyrgyzstan at the World Boxing Championships for adults.

The first medal was won in 2023 by Munarbek Seyitbek uulu at the World Championship held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan).

At the current World Championship in the UAE, Omar Livaza, competing in the weight category up to 63.5 kg, has reached the final and will compete for the gold medal on December 13. He has become the first Kyrgyzstani in history to reach the final at a World Championship.
