Omar Livaza won silver at the World Championship

Athlete from Kyrgyzstan Omar Livaza won second place at the World Boxing Championship under the auspices of IBA, which took place in the United Arab Emirates.

Competing in the weight category up to 63.5 kg, Livaza began his journey from the 1/16 finals.

In his first fight, the 21-year-old boxer triumphed over an opponent from Uzbekistan, and then in the 1/8 finals, he defeated an Armenian athlete. In the quarterfinals, the Kyrgyzstani faced a boxer from Azerbaijan and won by a split decision.

In the semifinals, Livaza stepped into the ring against a representative from Zambia and, demonstrating excellent technique, secured victory by unanimous decision — 5:0.

Thus, he became the first boxer in the history of Kyrgyzstan to reach the finals of the World Championship among adults.

The final match took place on December 13, where the Kyrgyzstani fought against the reigning champion of Russia, Ilya Popov.

After three rounds, the judges awarded victory to the Russian by unanimous decision.

As a result, Omar Livaza took second place and earned a silver medal.

It is also worth noting that in the weight category up to 71 kg, Ikhtiyar Nishonov secured third place and became the holder of a bronze medal.
