Expenses for the 2026 Olympics in Italy exceeded $5 billion

According to the information from the general director of the organizing committee, Andrea Varnier, the preparation for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy turned out to be significantly more expensive than initially anticipated. The original budget was planned at $1.3 billion, but during the preparation process, this amount increased to $1.7 billion.

Additionally, about $3.5 billion was allocated for the construction and modernization of sports infrastructure funded by the government.

Varnier also emphasized that the organizers faced a number of difficulties, which resulted in not all venues being completed on time. In particular, the hockey stadium in Santa Giulia and the bobsleigh and luge center in Cortina are in the final stages of construction, despite recommendations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to use existing facilities in neighboring countries.

Nevertheless, the organizers are actively continuing preparations for the opening ceremony, scheduled for Friday, working under tight deadlines.

Moreover, it has been reported that Kazakhstan allocated 13.3 billion tenge for the preparation for the Olympics.

The XXV Winter Olympic Games will take place from February 6 to 22, 2026.
