Raducanu suffered a crushing defeat in her first final since 2021

Emma Raducanu, representing Great Britain, was unable to secure victory in her first final match at a WTA tournament in the last five years, losing to Romanian Sorana Cirstea with a score of 0:6, 2:6. The event took place at the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca.

The final was Raducanu's first since her triumph at the US Open in 2021. However, throughout the match, she experienced significant physical difficulties after five intense matches over the week. At the beginning of the second set, she required medical assistance, during which doctors checked her blood pressure, and signs of fatigue were noticeable during the game. The total duration of the match was only 63 minutes.

Sorana Cirstea, 35, confidently controlled the game from the baseline and won the tournament without dropping a single set, delighting the local fans.

Despite the setback in the final, Raducanu will be able to rise to 25th place in the world rankings. In her next WTA 1000 tournament in Doha, she will face Camila Osorio in the first round.
