Czech athletes have decided to boycott the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games, which will take place in Italy. According to Novinky, the reason for this is the decision to lift restrictions for Russian athletes.

In a statement from the Czech Paralympic Committee, it was noted: “Our athletes will not participate in the opening of the Games in Verona, we will not have flag bearers in Cortina d'Ampezzo, and we do not plan to record messages from athletes for the ceremony.”

Earlier, a similar decision to boycott was announced by the Ukrainian team, and subsequently, Estonia, Lithuania, and Poland joined this protest, with their official representatives also not attending the ceremony.

The Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place from March 6 to 15. At the same time, six Russian athletes, including skiers Alexey Bugayev, Varvara Voronchikhina, Ivan Golubkov, Anastasia Bagiayan, and Sergey Sinyakin, as well as snowboarders Dmitry Fadeev and Philipp Shebbo Monzer, have received bilateral invitations to the competitions. They will compete under national symbols.
