Arkady Dubnov: The authorities of Kyrgyzstan provided unusually lavish hospitality to Vladimir Putin

“Don’t expect any sensational news”

In Bishkek, Russian President Vladimir Putin was welcomed with extraordinary pomp by the authorities of Kyrgyzstan during his visit for the CSTO summit. This assessment was given by political scientist Arkady Dubnov, commenting on the visit.

According to Dubnov, Putin's arrival is of crucial importance for the Kyrgyz government. This event symbolizes clear support, especially ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for November 30.

In light of the upcoming events, special security measures have been implemented in the country, which are likely to remain in place even after the CSTO meeting concludes.

“As for the official agenda, it looks quite traditional. Bilateral negotiations were held, and several agreements were signed regarding the deepening of strategic partnership in the areas of politics, trade, migration, and culture. The importance of Kyrgyzstan in preserving the Russian language is also emphasized,” the political scientist added.

Despite Armenia's absence from the meeting and the equal relations of some CSTO members with both Moscow and Kyiv, no particular surprises are expected from the summit.

“Don’t expect any sensational news,” he concluded.
