An expert in the field of politics highlighted several factors
Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, is set to visit Kyrgyzstan. This information was announced during a conversation between the Russian leader and the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and confirmed on the Kremlin's website.
According to the plan, Putin's visit will take place within the framework of the CSTO forum scheduled for November 27.
“The main reason for this visit is the CSTO meeting. It is important to address issues concerning the security of the southern borders of the CIS countries. Central Asia has strategic significance, and Moscow plays a key role in this process,” noted Igor Shestakov, director of the expert initiatives center “Oi Ordo,” in a conversation with Vesti.kg.
In the current conditions, the CSTO is becoming an important tool for Russia to develop military cooperation in the post-Soviet space.
“Russia has military bases in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Therefore, there will be a kind of ‘clock synchronization’ on security issues in the region. This is especially relevant against the backdrop of the unstable situation in Afghanistan, which remains a ‘troublesome’ neighbor for Central Asia. Additionally, Turkey's activation, seeking to take the place currently occupied by Moscow, is also a significant factor,” the political scientist added.
Another goal of the visit is to expand cooperation on previously discussed areas.
“The Kremlin is interested in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kyrgyzstan with the participation of the company ‘Rosatom.’ The agenda will likely also include the issue of increasing supplies of fuel and lubricants. We should not forget the traditional topic of labor migration. Although Russia is tightening migration legislation, especially in the context of legalizing migration, many citizens of Central Asia still choose Russian regions for employment,” concluded Igor Shestakov.
