In Moscow, at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, an international scientific and practical conference was held dedicated to the impact of the domestic political situation in Afghanistan on the security of the countries in the region. The press service of the CSTO reports a high level of participation.

Representatives from the CSTO Secretariat, the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the SCO, as well as diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and leading researchers from scientific centers in Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Pakistan, and several other countries participated in the conference.

The Secretary General of the CSTO, Imangali Tasmagambetov, opened the conference with a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of dialogue in the face of serious challenges facing Afghanistan and the region as a whole.

He noted: "I am convinced that constructive discussions aimed at solving specific tasks in the field of regional security will help us gain a deeper understanding of the processes occurring in Afghanistan, predict changes in the situation in the country and the region, as well as develop effective approaches to addressing existing problems."

Furthermore, Tasmagambetov reported that the initiative to hold this expert format was launched by the CSTO Secretariat in 2023, and the organization attaches particular importance to it as a key direction of its work.

All recommendations developed during the conference will be summarized and submitted to the Working Group on Afghanistan under the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CSTO for further use in the organization's activities.
