A recent statement by the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan, Saymumin Yatimov, at the Third CIS Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism in Dushanbe served as the basis for discussing the measures taken by the government. He reported that more than 4,000 Tajik students had been returned to the country to prevent their possible involvement in terrorist organizations.
According to Yatimov, these students were under the influence of terrorist groups and foreign religious educational institutions, which required urgent action from the authorities. "The return of students is an important measure to prevent their participation in extremist structures," he emphasized.
Additionally, Yatimov pointed out the emergence of a new threat to CIS countries related to the situation in Syria. "People from our region are participating in international terrorist groups in Syria, where they gain combat experience," he noted, adding that the government of Tajikistan is fully aware of the seriousness of these threats and is taking comprehensive measures to prevent them.
