The president noted that in February of last year, he initiated important steps in this direction by gathering ministers and the head of the Cabinet to instruct them to develop a plan for building student dormitories in regional centers. With the introduction of rotation, students studying on a budget will study in opposite regions: southern students will go to the north, while northern students will head to the south.
Currently, 10,000 budget places have been allocated for applicants in Kyrgyzstan: 5,000 for students from the south and 5,000 for students from the north. The president also reported plans to build dormitories in seven regions; however, the project could not be completed this year, and its deadlines have been postponed to September of next year. Work will begin after the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and the World Nomad Games, scheduled for this year.
Sadyr Japarov emphasized that the student rotation, starting in September of next year, will have a positive effect: "This initiative will help eradicate the north-south problem," he stated. The president also noted that among the 5,000 students who will study in the south, new families may form, allowing for the exchange of mentality and culture. Similar changes will occur among southern students in the north.
In the opinion of the head of state, if such measures are implemented, the issues related to the division between the north and south could disappear within 20-30 years. He added that without active measures, this problem cannot be resolved completely.
