After the completion of the reconstruction, which began in 2022, the checkpoint will become larger and will include fast and slow corridors for passenger cars. The first Z portal scanning complex in Central Asia has also been installed here.
Representatives of the Customs Committee noted that the area of the checkpoint will be 9 hectares, and it will transform into not just a digital, but an intelligent customs facility.
To minimize the formation of queues, the road at the checkpoint will be expanded to 16 vehicle lanes. The opening of the updated checkpoint is scheduled for early 2026, which will allow servicing more than 1,500 vehicles and 50,000 passengers daily.
The "Gishtkuprik" checkpoint is located on the border of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, where the Kazakh side has the "Zhibek Zholy" checkpoint.
From February 5, 2025, the checkpoint will be closed for reconstruction, which has been ongoing since 2022.
