In Bishkek, one of the most significant events in the industry took place – the Water Supply and Sanitation Forum 2025, dedicated to the theme "Sustainable and Innovative Services." The event brought together representatives from the government, local authorities, water utilities, international organizations, and experts, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan.

The forum served as a platform for discussing necessary systemic reforms and innovations aimed at the sustainable development of the water sector in the country.

The water supply and sanitation sector faces serious challenges, including outdated infrastructure, a lack of investment, climate change, and increasing water consumption. More than 30% of the rural population still struggles to access safe drinking water, and a significant portion of the existing infrastructure requires modernization.

The goal of the forum is to develop solutions for the identified problems, determine priorities, and establish tools for the development of the sector in the coming years.

"The last few years have been a time of significant changes for the water sector in our country. Thanks to the policy of President Sadyr Japarov and the support of the Cabinet of Ministers, we are moving from fragmented solutions to comprehensive modernization of the industry," noted one of the forum participants.

During the forum, representatives of government institutions discussed current tasks and reforms necessary to improve the efficiency and sustainability of water services.

The sessions of the forum focused on future technologies: automation of water supply processes, intelligent management systems, digital monitoring platforms, and innovations that will help reduce water losses, improve service quality, and enhance resilience to climate change. Utility leaders from various regions will share examples of successful water system management in both urban and rural areas.

As a result of the event, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Department of Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater Development and the Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I. Razakov.
