At the meeting of the committee on finance, budget, entrepreneurship, and competition development of the parliament, amendments to the Law "On Pricing" proposed by the Prime Minister were discussed.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Benazir Nurlanova explained that if the bill is adopted, the state will have the opportunity to regulate prices not only for socially significant goods but also for works and services, the list of which will be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the data presented at the meeting, by the end of 2024, tariffs for services may increase by 8.1% compared to the beginning of the year, which has led to an increase in the number of citizen complaints about rising prices for certain types of services.

Additionally, the bill introduces a new concept — "profitability." The Deputy Minister noted that such regulation will be less stringent.

“This will allow businesses to set prices for goods, works, and services within a certain level of profitability. At the same time, it is proposed to limit profitability to no more than 25 percent of the cost price,” she clarified.

Deputy Dastan Bekeshev asked what specific services and works would be subject to regulation in the event of the bill's approval.

Zhenaly Orozbaev, Chairman of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service, responded that various socially significant services and works, such as the cost of education in universities, would fall under regulation.

In response, the deputy also suggested including rental prices for housing, car towing, as well as education in schools and kindergartens in the list of regulated items.
