Zhazgul Ibraimova: Organic farming is not a trend, but a chance to save our soil

At the recent conference "Organic Agri-Dialogue," dedicated to the future of agriculture in Kyrgyzstan, Zhazgul Ibraimova, a senior lecturer at KNAU, put forward an important idea: to promote the growth of organic farming in the country, it is necessary to stop viewing it as a temporary trend. In her opinion, this is the only way to preserve soil health and ensure food security for future generations.

Zhazgul Ibraimova emphasized that issues of ecology and health are not just fashionable terms, but a pressing necessity. She stated: "The transition to organic farming is not a temporary fascination, but a scientifically justified and economically viable step into the future."

As an expert in soil science and agrochemistry, she reminded everyone of the alarming consequences of uncontrolled use of mineral fertilizers and chemicals: the soil loses its vitality, biological activity decreases, humus disappears, and the natural balance is disrupted. In contrast, an organic approach allows the soil to breathe, activates the microflora, and ensures its fertility for decades, not just for a few seasons.

The foundation of this system consists of simple and effective methods: composting, green manures, bioprotection, and proper agronomy. This not only increases fertility but also enhances the quality and safety of the products we consume.

Moreover, for the country, this represents a real opportunity. The demand for organic products is growing in both domestic and international markets. This opens up a chance for farmers to increase their incomes and develop Kyrgyzstan's export potential.

However, Zhazgul Ibraimova acknowledged that the transition to organic farming is a long and complex process that requires significant knowledge and support from the government. "As scientists and educators, we must go beyond our offices and actively assist farmers: consulting them, conducting soil analyses, and implementing new technologies in practice," she concluded.
